The Centre espoir Sophie is a francophone drop-in located in Ottawa offering various services to marginalized women.

Services

The various services offered by the Centre provide practical and emotional support to women. A number of programs and services are offered such as meals, food cupboard, peer assistance, outreach service, thematic workshops and recreational activities, laundry and shower facilities, mini hair salon, computers, telephone and fax services, references and access to documentation.

Participants

Marginalized women are those confronted to many challenges and barriers and are facing exclusion due to different social mechanisms and situations such as poverty, homelessness, sex work, violence, unemployment and health difficulties. They have varied and complex needs and there is much suffering.

Our mission

Our mission is to offer a secure and supportive environment to women experiencing difficulties and barriers, to support their empowerment by facilitating their use of various resources and services available in the community as well as by becoming conscious of their own strengths. Our goal also aims to enhance their knowledge, which allows them to discover alternatives to their current plight, and to support them through their decisions about their future.

Our goals

Our objectives are to allow women to leave the street momentarily and rest in a warm and secure place; provide them with support and tools so that they can improve or maintain their health, dignity and their living conditions; to facilitate their empowerment and development and to advocate on behalf of women.
